Security researchers examine technical aspects of InfraXstructure 2015: Wywiad z Kamilem Stawiarskim.

Summary

Kamil Stawiarsky, a database specialist, is interviewed at InfraXstructure 2015. His expertise spans database administration, tuning, building reliable environments, disaster recovery, backup policies, and database security.

At the conference, Kamil presented on server consolidation—demonstrating how organizations can consolidate from many individual servers (using 56 servers as an example) into reliable clusters using solutions like VMware vSphere, while maintaining performance. He used practical demonstrations with boxes and 72 items to explain block-level reads and consolidation mechanics.

Following his lecture, Kamil co-conducts workshops with Adam Bilski targeting small and medium-sized businesses with limited budgets. They showcase a solution called "dioptrii" designed for organizations with approximately 75,000 PLN budgets (including licenses and hardware), demonstrating achievable performance with entry-level licensing and common hardware.

Kamil critiques Poland's Oracle and database community as underdeveloped compared to global standards. He is one of only two Polish Database Manager award recipients (the other lives in Dublin). While Germany, Czech Republic, and the UK host regular open community conferences, Poland primarily holds closed, vendor-sponsored events with international speakers.

He advocates for open conferences like InfraXstructure 2015 and beacon, which unite professionals from diverse technology backgrounds (Oracle, Microsoft, cloud, infrastructure) for honest discussion without vendor favoritism. He plans to participate in the revived Polish Oracle User Group conference (May 28–29 at Hotel Magellan near Warsaw, 2 days) discussing cloud security and consolidation security.

Kamil concludes by praising InfraXstructure's organization (media, graphics, speakers, networking), and hopes future editions will be at least 2 days long to strengthen Poland's tech community.
